Why is my double-pane window foggy between the panes?
A double-pane (thermal or insulated) window is two panes of glass with a sealed space between them. When that seal fails, humid Florida air gets inside, and moisture condenses where you can't reach it. That's why the haze won't wipe off from inside or outside.
A broken seal is more than a cosmetic problem. It can lead to air leakage and higher utility bills, and in our humid West Central Florida climate, air and water leaks around a window can lead to mold and warped frames.
Can you replace just the foggy glass and keep the frame?
Often, yes. If the frame, sashes and hardware are still in good shape, only the sealed glass unit has failed, so that's all we replace. You keep your existing frame, and there's no tearing out and refinishing around the window.
We treat double-pane windows first, before we recommend replacement. If the frame itself is damaged or the window can't be repaired safely, we'll tell you honestly and explain your options, including window glass replacement and full window replacement.
Which windows and glass types do you work on?
- Single-hung and double-hung windows
- Casement windows
- Awning and jalousie windows
- Sliding glass doors, with dog door insert options available on request
- Double (thermal) pane glass, single pane glass and hurricane impact glass
Our mobile unit comes to your home, so the work is done on-site.
How long does it take?
It depends on the glass. Some glass, such as insulated or impact units, has to be ordered to size first. When we quote your job, we'll tell you what to expect for your windows.
How much does foggy glass replacement cost?
It depends on the size of the glass, whether it's standard insulated glass or impact glass, the type of window and how many windows need it. That's why we quote from the actual windows rather than publishing a price list. Photos are the fastest way to get an accurate number.
What photos should I send?
- One close-up of the foggy glass
- One photo of the whole window, inside or outside
- A rough width and height, if you can measure it
- How many windows are foggy
You can add up to five photos straight from your phone on our quote form.
Common questions
Can foggy glass be cleaned instead of replaced?
The moisture is inside the sealed unit, so it can't be wiped away from either side. Replacing the sealed glass unit fixes the actual cause, the failed seal.
Is it worth replacing the glass in an older window?
Often it is, when the frame and hardware are still sound. We'll look at the whole window and tell you honestly if a repair will hold up.
Can you replace foggy glass in a sliding glass door?
Yes. We replace glass in single pane, thermal pane and hurricane impact sliding doors.
Do you serve my area?
We serve all of Pinellas County, including Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Largo, Dunedin, Palm Harbor, Seminole and Tarpon Springs, plus western Hillsborough. We don't cover downtown Tampa.
